The UMC is Awesome
One great thing about our denomination is its commitment to higher education. The support the UMC gives to its schools, colleges, universities, and seminaries is unparalleled worldwide. Your denomination cares about your education, and provides schools and scholarships to help you along the way. When it comes to your calling, the UMC wants you to be prepared!
UM Seminaries are Awesome
There are 13 UMC seminaries across the United States. They all have unique characteristics, academic specialties, and programs that make them different from one another. No matter where God calls you – whether to church work, missions, Christian education, chaplaincy, teaching, counseling, music and the arts, advocacy or non-profit work, or some other innovative ministry – there is a place for you to prepare for that ministry in one of the 13 UMC seminaries. That’s good news!
The Caravan is Awesome
Each seminary is so unique in what it offers you really need to explore them all to determine which is the right fit for you and your calling! You can learn a lot about a seminary from its website, but the best way to explore is in-person, by meeting students and faculty, and by hearing from them what’s happening on campus. In-person you can learn much more fully, and you can get a sense of whether you would fit well with that seminary community.
If we totaled up the cost of traveling to each of our UMC seminaries… traveling by plane, staying in a budget motel, and only renting a car when necessary, the bill rings up at about $3500. That’s too much for most of us to consider such a big cross-country trip! If only there was a way to meet representatives of most of the UMC seminaries in one place . . .
Wait – there is!
The second UMC “Seminary Caravan” will be traveling through the North this fall, making stops in Chicago, Evansville, and Columbus. Admissions reps from 12 of the 13 UMC seminaries will travel to each location and set up information tables while there. This will be a great opportunity to get information and ask questions that are important to you.
Which Seminaries Will Be There?
Who is the Caravan For?
If you are curious about theological education, are a prospective student to one or several of these seminaries, or just want to see what the denomination’s schools have to offer, then you are invited. Anyone with curiosity or interest can come take part in the events and meet the seminary reps. Even if you don’t know exactly how God is calling you or whether seminary even will be a part of that call, the Seminary Caravan events provide an opportunity to learn why someone would attend seminary in the first place, and what can be done with a seminary education.
